How about as a different way to make realms competitive; you time the player in real time, to see how quickly they can complete the realm?
You could time the whole realm play through, or just the time spent in battles.
Maybe cities could act as a pause point.
Maybe award time bonuses for completing certain tasks/winning battles.

not a big fan of this, as it kind of defeats the purpose of it being a turn based game. Just including all of the other factors that could mess up your time (including computer performance, meat world stuff that comes up)
