  • I know Beamster is, anyone else?

I've been going through a bit of a lull of not finding new music, and now Amazon Prime comes with Amazon Prime Music I've come across some real awesome stuff, Glass Hammer I've warmed up to really quickly. perilious and Ode to Echo I've been listening to constantly.

Also been expanding my Kaipa collection, any other recommendations? People keeps telling me to check out Opeth but I'm really really not clicking with that.

On the heavier side of prog for sure, sounds good though. Bookmarked!

How about that, Porcupine Trees ex drummer :) cheers Rafi!

Heard of them, never checked them out though, cheers for the links. Anything that has been touched by the god like hands of Steve Wilson has to be good though, even if it is just production.

It appears to me there are two sides of Opeth - the earlier microphone eating and throat gurgling, and the later proggy stuff. Heard snippets from both, did not enjoy what I heard. Perhaps I should give them a proper listen.

I wonder if it is a bit like the way Dream Theater went - loved their stuff when I got into them in the late 90s, Awake, Images and Words, Metropolis Pt 2, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, but then something happened after Six Degrees, it lost it's magic.

Rafi had suggested them above, and as it happens the album he recommended is also on Amazon Prime (We're here because we're here). I listened to it this morning, liked A Simple Mistake. Very PT. But I think it needs another listen.

    Cheers guys!

  • So I've given Opeth another go this afternoon.

Watershed completely messed with my head but has left me intrigued. The Lotus Eater left me in a state of bewilderment.

Still Life, which from what I've read is the one to listen to, I didn't particularly enjoy all that much. So much so I had to stop listening to it about half way.

I am however starting to warm up a little to "Heritage", which apparently was their first album into their more prog rock side. More my taste I guess.

  • So, I got 7 Proggy CDs for Christmas :)

I highly recommend The Tangent, I've been fans of them since 2003, but wasn't too fond of their 2009 album Down and Out in Paris and London, but got their latest 2 and they are great.

Also, Glass Hammer. Really digging their stuff at the moment. Perilous and Culture of Ascent.
