I'm thinking at this point that it isn't so much a matter of whether or not we need a disclaimer, but what would be the best way of going about it.

It needs to be able to facilitate new players, and basically work them towards an appreciation of the game that us folks on here all have.

Along with the other stuff i posted, a key thing would be categorizing things a wee bit different...

Right now there is:

Duel
Realms
League
Custom
Equipped
Classic
Law
Chaos

and then the combinations of said things...

In my mind what seems would work best is:
step 1) Introducing the Law and Chaos Game systems *Title screen pop up*
step 2) Introducing the Modes of play (Duel, Realms, League, Custom) *Online/Realm screen pop up*
step 3) Tie in the equipment mechanics, and leave a mention of classic 'no equipment' settings *Perhaps an equipment screen pop up*

Though some would argue that classic is the fundamental go to choice, equipment just being the novelty thing. Though, given the influx of players, they might be more geared towards equipment stuff. I think clearing up the confusion with equipment would open up that mental real estate for 1st time players.

But, there has to be some way to make this relatable to new players.

You could make a switch from a wizard staff and hat along with some kind of ratchety sound effect. Make a fun feature out of it.

the problem is that the biggest rng comes from card draw and deck generation
so it would be misleading

Thats's great Mazy!

And then when you click no it asks "are you sure" and then you click that you are sure and it says "you are wrong, deleting from harddrive, play HoMM" :)

Yeah, I lost the ability to get my family interested in Chaos Reborn because they both (sister, mum) didn't realise there was a Chaos mode, didn't find Law very Chaos-like, and moved on. Getting them to come back is hard.

It needs two simple things:

1. Put up a Law Mode or Chaos Mode choice immediately after initial Wizard creation, with a clear explanation of what each involves (and that you can change between the two at any time).

2. Have a big, glowing icon on the main wizard stat screen that reminds you which mode you're set to.
