Death Animations still not right and Inconsistent

Discussion and questions about the latest version of Chaos Reborn. Not for bugs, but for comments about the game play.

  • I know this has been mentioned in the past and probably deemed less important compared to the other bugs mentioned.

Also it would be argued that this is purely a cosmetic gripe, but to me it makes the gameplay look very odd and unpolished.

When a creature is cast as real the following procedure occurs:
    1. A glow appears on the Hex according to colour of the alignment.
    2. A downward animated beam of light appears according to colour of the alignment.
    3. A rising silhouette of a animated creature/structure appears quickly before becoming solid.
    4. end of procedure.

This is works perfectly and have no problems with this.

But the procedures for the death animation are inconsistent.

When a real creature dies the following procedure occurs:
    1. The animated creature starts to fall to the ground.
    2. 1 second before it hits the ground the creature changes from solid to silhouette.
    3. the silhouette creature can still be seen as a animated beam of light occurs.
    4. the silhouette creature can still be seen as it shrinks into the ground
    5. Beam of light then fades.
    6. End of procedure.

This is more noticeable in large creatures such as Dragon, Giant & Hydra etc when they die

The same procedure applies to certain structures as well i.e. the Icarus Tower which is obvious choice.

Note: when the white outline is temporarily stuck on the creature/structure during the death animation it is even more visible.

However there some contradictions to certain creatures that die which do not follow these above procedures.

A Dwarf's hammer remains solid when the dwarf turns from solid to silhouette.
But the Goblin's staff changes from solid to silhouette as does the Giant's Boulder when both are killed.

As a Pegasus dies, its body changes from solid to silhouette but its wings remain visible.

As a Shadow Tree dies it is primarily solid and still retains its dancing animation as it sinks into the ground.

As a magic tree dies, it shrinks away leaving the blue aura hanging before sinking away to the ground.

    Undead

Zombie, Skeleton & Hellhound follow the same procedure as real creatures mentioned above which is also noticable.

    But

The Vampire does not following any procedure and has a unique death animation all on its own.

However when an Undead creature risen from the grave dies, the procedure changes yet again:
    1. The animated creature (lion, spider etc) falls to the ground.
    2. It remains solid
    3. The solid creature sinks into the ground as a animated beam of light occurs.
    4. Beam of light then fades.
    5. End of procedure

I still think the timer is out between the creature hitting the floor and the change from solid to silhouette and when the beam of light occurs.

One suggestion would be to fix the timer.

Another suggestion would be to get rid of the silhouette during the death animation and make the beam of light cover the hex more to hide the creature as it sinks into the ground.

    Thank you

  • JG has already replied to this (in a different thread) saying that these death animations are final and working as intended. So, this might be a waste of resources to take a look at again.. especially when you consider we could probably make a list of more worthwhile things that really need to be addressed, all things that have really simple fixes and would make significant improvements.
