I'd like to see some 1v3s or 1v4s as you get to the higher difficulties. I'd like to see an option where the player can bring in multiple allies, and to be faced my multiple invaders. I'd like to see Marauders which are not aligned to the Wizard King of the realm, leading to 3 way battles, and then some combinations of the two; a 1v1v2. I'd like to see some 6FFAs and beyond.

Then it'd start getting interesting to play realms.
Of course! I was just referring to the potential progression of stats and loot equipment in relation to the reinforced difficulty of AI's as you play.

I remember that thread were we talked about having tools to customize these for certain battles, and i still agree that they'd fit in perfectly. I'd go as far as saying, if snapshot didn't have enough time to revamp the realms game to be more of this dynamic rpg/roguelite kind of thing, what the next best thing to do would be to just give designers the means to really customize each battle encounter (1v1, 1v2, 1v1v1v1, 1v2, stacked taboos, objectives as in the custom game lobbies) At least in this case, we could ensure some variety in the gameplay of the realms.

Ideally, we could have both this 'start the realm naked and weak, rpg/roguelike thing' and the 'custom game options but in the realm design tools'..............and then the ability for realm designers to re-edit their realms so that they can add all of these new features to there realms (for those, like me, who'd like to shoe horn them into their existing realms) :D

I honestly don't think any really are. You could technically play any realm and it'd probably feel about the same.
The problem, in my opinion, is that there isn't anything in the game mechanically to facilitate a dynamic progression.

It's generally just 1v1 matches with varying mercs and talismans, which are arguably just as easy to fight without talismans (with the exception of minor buffs that cost nothing to buff you)

The only really consequential thing that carries over battle to battle is the mercs as they're the only thing you generally carry ver from fight to fight that provide an obvious buff to you.

You can buy a random staff and armor and do a Level 1 realm without talismans equipped. Level 1realms are fairly challenging to solo this way. Also, this could initiate a characterized realm campaign.

Each tier of levels afterwards could then allow incremental ability to equip bought talismans or gear.

Level 1 - random bought staff and armor. zero talismans or gold to start. Manually record talismans and gear collected from each realm and tier. Death results in realm restart or restarting that tier with only equipment available from previous tiers. (This a soft rogue-like rule compared to starting all over at level 1. It penalizes switching from a realm to another for the sake of lower difficulty). Completion of first Level 1 realm moves player to next tier. Once a realm is started that is the realm that counts and must be completed. Invader always on. Ally players only invited when facing more than one opposing wizard or when opposing wizard has 4 or more reinforcements than the player has mercs.

Level 2-3 = 1 talisman to start each realm in tier, only equipment from previous realms allowed. After completing a Level 2 a Level 3 must be chosen. Following completion of Level 3 move onto next tier.

Level 4-5 = 1 talisman for staff and 1 talisman for armor. One level 4 and one Level 5 completion before moving onto next tier.

Level 6-8 = 2 talismans for staff and 2 talismans for armor. Only equipment from previous tiers allowed. Start with any level in tier. Completion of a level moves player to remaining level. Multiple level 8 completions allowed.

Level 9-10 = full talisman loadout using gear from previous tiers. Completion of Level 9 moves player to level 10. Completion of Level 10 completes the campaign.

(Optional) Level 11-12 = use any gear collected from previous tiers. Ally player allowed always allowed. Invader only required to be toggled if opposing wizard has 3, or less, more reinforcements than player has mercs. Completion of Level 11 moves to Level 12. No limit to Level 12 realms and 3 deaths allowed before realm reload or switching to a different realm. No tier restarts.

(Optional) Sell all talismans to start campaign. After each realm completion attempt a first duel of the day. If you win then receive a random talisman.

Selling all talismans before starting a campaign would be a leap of faith, but I like the idea of it... (wish there was a way to just lock down all your talismans before starting a particular realm run).

Matty's Equipment randomiser would be a good way to start with random equipment for that first level.
